Split to mp3 takes a very long time

When I split a long (hour-ish) file into (20-ish) individual mp3 files it takes many minutes. I suspect this is because it is using LAME instead of the built in mp3 encoder. Any possibility of offering the Mac's built-in encoder as an option (assuming it is indeed faster)?

Unfortunately, the built-in encoder is not accessible to third-party developers, presumably because of some licensing issues. If you use LAME in CBR mode and at slightly lower quality, it will improve the speed by quite a bit. (The quality of the built-in encoder is apparently comparable to a rather low quality setting for LAME.) Regards,
