BlackHole question
I have been using SoundFlower for the same purpose. Would BlackHole be better? If so, why?=

BlackHole works on Catalina while SoundFlower doesn't. Best,

BlackHole question
My concern is being blind and using VoiceOver as the screen reader if you change the output in System Preferences to BlackHole one couldn’t hear speech.

BlackHole question
Hi John
To prevent this being a problem, go in to Voice Over Utility, the Sound category, and you will find a pop up button to change the output device for VO. Change it off system default, and to the specific output device you want, eg, internal speakers. You can then change the output device in system preferences to black hole without affecting VoiceOver.

In principle, one can also use the Audio MIDI Setup utility to create a multi-output device that outputs to BlackHole and to your speakers simultaneously. Although this is the recommended way of achieving this mentioned on ExistentialAudio's website, it didn't seem to work for me, which is why I didn't mention it before. Regards,

PS: I just tried it again with a multi-output device and it works very well, it just needed a reboot of the whole system rather than just CoreAudio.
