iPod skips joined files
I've been making an iPod of classical music for my mother. I need it to play the files at random, so I have joined the movements of longer pieces into a single file using Amadeus Pro so the piece will play all the way through while on Shuffle and not play individual movements at random.
After joining the shorter files, I save as .m4a using AAC compression, which should have the new file saved the same as the originals ripped through iTunes. I then drag the new files into iTunes. However, I've found that these files are often skipped when played on her iPod classic 5th generation. I've tried reconverting the files in iTunes which seems to help some, but not always.
Interestingly, the problem doesn't happen when playing on my older iPod (a 4th generation non-video iPod). I'm not sure if the problem is in the length, that might exceed the 32MB buffer, or if it's something I've got wrong in the file type.
Any suggestions?

Martin,
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, the problem is not consistent. Here's a recent experience: I navigated to Composers under the Music menu, and chose Beethoven. All the tracks here are longer pieces that I've joined together using AP. The first track started playing. I clicked on the scroll wheel to advance to the next track. It too started playing. I advanced again. The iPod paused briefly at this third track, then skipped ahead and began playing the fourth track. I pressed the left arrows to back up to the third track, and again it skipped ahead to the fourth track. I clicked to back up again, and the third track started playing.
This behavior happens with both of two 5th gen iPod classics. It does not happen with an older 4th generation iPod. I'm beginning to think it may be a problem with these 5th gen iPods playing tracks that are bigger than the 32MB buffer size.
Am I correct that saving a file from Amadeus Pro as m4a using AAC is the same file type that iTunes uses when ripping a track from a CD?
