Request: Longer edit preview

Post by roburg »

Having done no spoken word editing for quite a while, I just discovered while demonstrating Amadeus Pro to a new user colleague that the "e" edit preview has a maximum length of 2 seconds. Would it be possible in a near-future version to make this longer -- as long as 10 seconds? (An adjustment control on the main interface would be helpful too.)

The reason: a: Making edits in speech often requires multiple trial-and-error attempts and, b: it's essential to be able to hear the effect of the cut on the rhythm of the subject's speech at the moment. There are no clear-cut visible rhythmic beats to go by, as in music and a zero crossing isn't always the best boundary for the edit.

We make many, many of these edits in a single short interview; a 15 minute piece can require literally hundreds. (Removing "um"s, "ah"s and excessive stammering, for instance.)

In Amadeus II, locating edit points was cumbersome but very precise, setting markers around the edit and playing between them and the selection. After a while one learned to move those markers around and check/uncheck option buttons very quickly! There are some unrelated problems with using Amadeus II and it would be a great convenience to be able to edit in Amadeus Pro.
