Inconsistent file size

Post by wconable »

I have just transferred an act of an opera from tape to an AIFF file using Amadeus Pro. It's the 5th such piece I've transferred, similar in every way including length. But while the other 4 come in around 750Mb, this one came in initially at over 2 Gb, and when I cut it down from about 80 min to 60 it was still 1.9Gb, and the extra 20±minutes are 800 Mb. What can be happening?

Thanks,

Maybe you used a higher sampling rate or you recorded it in 24Bit
instead of 16? Regards,

Right on. Previous was 16/44.1, but this one was 24/96. The only thing I had changed myself was updating to the latest version of Amadeus pro. But when I just now went to Sound:Record to New File the default settings were 16/44.1. Go figure.

I see that by doing a save as, I can resample the offending file at 44.1; is there a way to also convert to 16 bits, or must I re-record?

Thanks,

Sound -> Characteristics or just click on the 24/96 text field at the
bottom of the window. Regards,
