Hi-
I am not able to open a stereo quicktime mov file without losing one of the two channels and ending up with a single mono track and one track of audio completely missing. What am I doing wrong. How can I resolve this. I do not have this problem with WAV or AIF files.
Best,
Scott

are you opening a .mov file or importing it as raw data?
I just tried opening a .mov and it opened both L&R channels and played fine

Hi-
Just opening the .mov file using the open command.
You can get a snippet of the file here. If you open it in QT you will see that it is indeed in stereo. If I open it in Amadeus II or Pro it only imports one track.

Try it now. It was a 30MB file and it just finished uploading.
I just tested it and it's up now.

Ok here's why it isn't working:
- the mov file contains two tracks
- 1 is 32b float mono
- 2 is 32b float stereo

QT is just a container for various media types and can have multiple tracks (mono or stereo)
I opened the files in Peak and a small window came up with the info above
this allowed me to open either the stereo or the mono tracks to edit them
I suspect this was exported from FCP or something without flattening the audio

also, it seems Amadeus Pro doesn't know how to handle these sorts of files while Peak does
but I would pull the file into FCP or something and flatten the audio
let me know if you need more clarification

Thanks, I will try flattening the movies. These files are coming out a Skype recorder application. I did not realize it was formatting them so strangely.

All best,
Scott

I really, really like it. The quality is amazing at times.
This is the first problem I've had.

from a cursory glance at the web page

Call Recorder records direct to a quicktime mov file

and it takes the 'caller' and 'callee' and puts them on different channels (Left and Right)

but the callee was in stereo while you the caller were in mono

check your audio settings in Call Recorder as well as Skype -- maybe something got inadvertently switched by accident?

as well...I use their free SoundSource app and it is very handy

Thanks!
I've looked a few times and there are not any settings related to this that I can see. I should visit the ecamm support site and see if I can find something there.
Thanks for all your help.
Best,
Scott

Here we go...

Q: How come I can't open the QuickTime movies created by Call Recorder in some audio programs?

A: The movie files are multi-track movies where each audio track may contain a different number of audio channels. This can cause QuickTime problems when opening (converting) the movies in some programs. To work around this, you can use the included Split Movie Tracks or Convert To AIFF utilities to create movies with just one audio track before editing.

ok good to know for the future! Smile
I kind of liked having the caller and callee split into a stereo and mono tracks
this way you could process/EQ them differently if you wanted to
but then you'd have to open them in something other than the current version of Amadeus Pro to get at the various tracks
just a thought
