Export of large files in wav format failing

Post by ravijn »

I may not be doing the right thing here, please let me know if this is an issue.

I am trying to save a large file, >1Hr recording at 24bit/128.0 kHz into a wave file, but Amadeus Pro 1.3.1 fails and gives an error message to split the file or to save it in another format. I am able to save it in amad format, but need to save it as wave. The earlier versions of Amadeus Pro did not have this problem, so please let me know if there is a limit on wave file size and times.

Thanks in Advance for any help. :P

Strange sample rate, but...

There is a limit to WAV files. Technically they can be no larger than
4GB, and some applications only support 2GB WAV (not sure about
Amadeus Pro).

The Wave standard restricts files to 2GB and this is what Amadeus Pro
enforces. At 24Bit/128kHz/stereo this would be about 50 minutes.

Hey Martin, not to change the subject, but I was under the
understanding that WAV used a 32-bit unsigned integer for it's file
size header, thus allowing for 4Gb maximum file size. If an
application addresses this value as signed the limit is halved to 2GB,
but this was application dependent.

I'm just curious as I'm not a developer but regularly deal with large
audio files and am moving our production to RF64 to address this. A
lot has been written about the 2/4GB WAV issue, so I'm curious how you
interpret it.

Steve

Well, my pragmatic stance on this is that since there are quite a few
programs around that won't handle WAV files larger than 2GB correctly,
I prefer to be on the safe side and not to create them in the first
place. I think that reading them works fine though, although I haven't
checked on that in a very long time.

Just for the record, some lossless file formats that don't have any
2GB or 4GB limit are CAF, FLAC, Amadeus Pro, and SoundDesigner II.

Martin
