Filter out noise from fan?

I'm using Pro 2.4.5 on an iMac running High Sierra. I had to turn on a fan due to hot weather. How can I filter out the constant background noise of the fan in my recorded podcast interview?

Amadeus Pro has a noise reduction removal tool which you can use.

1. Select the noise to be filtered out.

2. Enter the noise reduction menu and select Sample.

3. Now, select the entire file.

4. Next, select to remove the noise.

IF the noise reduction tool provided doesn’t seem to do the job for you, there are other third party plug ins which will hopefully work better for you. I cannot, however, recommend any of them here as some of us might prefer one plug in to another. I use Acon Digital Restoration Suite and it’s very fast and fully accessible. Just one tip. IF you try third party plug ins, it would serve you best to make sure you go in to the advanced tab off the prefs window and from the table there, select to use generic controls.

By default, this is unchecked, but, if you check it, a wide range of things can now be controlled which you could not control before.

Ray is right, but don't forget that the golden rule of sound
recording is not to have any unwanted background noise in
the first place. Digital restoration tools will never ever be able
to recover information that's just lost, so if it is possible to turn
the fan off for a recording this would always be the better
choice. Best,

Martin is quite correct: however, if you MUST have the fan on, let me suggest that you run the denoising in small amounts in order to minimize the damage done to the original sound. This way, you can always back up if you have to. Also, leave at least one or two seconds of just noise at either the end or the beginning so you can grab a decent sample for the template.

Thank you, Ray! Just following the basic steps you outlined without having to go into preferences or anything complicated worked great! Totally eliminated the sound of the fan and the interview still sounds great. Means I won't have to suffer during my hour long interviews this summer!
