IF I wish to normalize sound to what is regarded as “industry standard do I use -.1DB using maximal value or do I use maximal RMS power? IF neither is correct, what is the best beginning target setting?

I use 0 db for my normalisation as that I think is industry standard. I forgot the standards my teacher talked about.

Garth Humphreys

normalization

Post by Garth Humphreys »

Hi Ray
This really depends on the specific industry, and the purpose of the file.
For example, it is completely fine to normalise to 0DB whilst working on the file within 32 bit land, Whilst working with in Amadeus pro. However I would caution against normalising to 0DB prior to rendering the file to another format such as MP3. I would recommend -1, rather than -.1 DB as this is a maximum Sample value, not a true peak value. If however, what we are really talking about here is loudness then the RMS is more relevant. Most standards refer to the LUFS, or LU. I really wish Amadeus pro included a LUFS tool. In the meantime, looking at the waveform statistics in the analysis menu is a rough substitute.

Thanks

normalization

Post by Raymond Foret Jr »

What I am wanting is to get the audio as loud as I can without distortion. Saving as 44.1 16bit wav BTW. in wich case, using maximal RMS power, what DB level would work best. I would have thought -10DB would work best but what do you think?

normalization

Post by Garth Humphreys »

Hi Ray

In this caseI would still normalise to -1 peak Sample, however then check where your RMS is sitting, and if necessary add some compression or limiting to be able to get your Aramis value higher when normalising. Of course, you never want to be going over 0DB for your peak sample however to make the track as loud as possible you may need to affect the dynamic range to get the volume at a suitable level for your needs.
-10 DB max RMS is probably going to be nice and loud, however ensure you’re not clippingat any point, and preferably allow that extra one dB between peak Sample and 0DB

I just checked my calendar, and what I see in there is schedule and the the
and think of the name of it now but the my drawer area where all of your
options are I don't see a genda per se but I see schedule and I thought
that was supposed to be the same thing basically as agenda so, if there's
been an update to that I haven't gotten it as of today, but I just wanted
to write back to you since it looks like you haven't heard back from anyone

Hello,

Is anyone else seeing in the google calendar agenda view is gone? If
so, is there a way to get it back or an alternative?

Thanks.

Raymond Foret Jr

normalization

Post by Raymond Foret Jr »

Thanks Garth. I took a look at one particular file and discovered that my minimel RMS was -11 and my maximal RMS was at -7 so I figured that -8 might work but I’d rather stick to -10 using maximal RMS and that way, I can play with the gain a little in the amplification submenu up or down as I may need to. I reckon that it would be a lot better if Martain could include some way to ensure at least average industry standard for music and for speech. That way, with those two presets or the one you suggested, one could start off with at least a fairly decent beginning point from which to very if need be.

What I am wanting is to get the audio as loud as I can without distortion. Saving as 44.1 16bit wav BTW. in wich case, using maximal RMS power, what DB level would work best. I would have thought -10DB would work best but what do you think?

Thanks

IF I wish to normalize sound to what is regarded as “industry standard do I use -.1DB using maximal value or do I use maximal RMS power? IF neither is correct, what is the best beginning target setting?
