Shut down computer without saving - lost file

Post by sarahmccrum »

I recorded a sound file and then had to shut down the computer, not realising I had not saved the file. In any other software this doesn't seem to matter, but when my computer reopened there was nothing there. Is there anywhere I can retrieve it, please?

Not sure I understand… If you attempt to quit the program while it is recording
(which is what you would do if you try to shut down the computer or log off your
account) it will either abort the procedure or give you a clear warning, together
with the possibility of aborting it. In order to lose the recording you would have to
either specifically say that you want to lose it or force-quite the program.

It depends on how the program was quit. If you said that you want to lose the recording,
then it is lost. If you force-quit the program, then the recording might still be around
in a temporary file (although that might have been cleaned up by the system upon
reboot). If it is, then next time you launch Amadeus Pro it will recover those files, place
them in the trash bin, and give you a warning. Regards,

Martin

It had stopped recording but had not been saved. The computer was restarted. If I do this with any other software it always brings up the unsaved file when the computer restarts. In this case it simply disappeared. it is not in the trash and there were no warnings either before or after restarting. is there anywhere else it could be?

I didn't quit or force quit the programme.

I would be very interested in finding out how you can reproduce this behaviour. In principle,
whenever you try to quit the program and some file hasn’t been saved, it should give you the
option to save it. If there’s some way you can bypass this, it would be a bug.

From what you are saying, it sounds like it is lost, sorry. Regards,
Martin
