Move tracks to center or slightly to side

Post by DougWheeler »

Apologies if this has been covered, but I can’t find it. (Perhaps I used the wrong search terms?) I have 4 tracks, 2 of which are vocals. I would like to move one to the center and one slightly to the left. I would also like to take a piece of track 3 (drum) move it let and then back right.
How do I do this?
Thank you in advance,
Doug

Thank you for your reply. I am using version 2.0. Perhaps a fuller explanation would clarify.
Track 1 – female vocal
Track 2 – male vocal
Track 3 – drums
Track 4 – guitar

If you were in the audience facing the group, the female voice is to the left, the male to the right, drums and guitar behind.

I would like the female voice to be placed just left of center, the male voice just right of center, drums left of the female voice, guitar to the right of the male voice. However, I do not want any of them fully left or fully right.

As for track 3 (drums) I have a section of that track I want fully left and a section that is fully right.

In other audio editing software I am used to fader sliders, knobs, or panning envelops. Perhaps I am just missing something?

Again, thanks in advance for any assistance.

My first response was off base since I misunderstood the problem. At
the risk of being unhelpful again, but since no one else that might
know better has responded, I will offer the following suggestion
(again for AP 1.5 but presumably AP 2 has something similar):

If the track is currently mono, convert to stereo using Sound->Convert
Track to Stereo
then adjust the balance using Effects->Stereo Utilities->Balance

For the drum track you would just select part of the track for each
balance adjustment and perhaps use Effects->Fading->Fade In/Out
separately on the left and right channels to get a smooth transition.

Thanks Craig - that sounds like it will work. I will try it when I get home tonight.

OK, still no success. I will simplify the question and post under a new topic.
