Place something far away from what you
hear.

Martin Hairer just saved my butt! I uploaded the 3.9GB file to him (at his request) and he waved his magic wand over it ... sent me back a 1.2GB .aiff (the size that I had originally anticipated) and it friggin' worked!!!!! The best part is that the pianist who commissioned the job never even got wind of the issue... YES!!!!
Yay Martin!

Now this is service above and beyond the call of duty! I really have to wonder whether the folks at BIAS and/or other audio software entities ever do such Massive Acts of Kindness.

Happy to read a Happy Ending,

No idea.... The symptom was that the recording was chopped into short pieces
(maybe around 50ms; I didn't keep the file), separated by pieces of absolute
silence (around 100ms; that's why the file trebled in size). It was easy enough
to repair by hacking together a function that trashes every sample that is identically
zero in both channels. Since the probability of this occurring naturally in a 24Bit
stereo recording is essentially zero, this restored the recording perfectly. Regards,

Martin

Martin Hairer just saved my butt! ...he waved his magic wand ....

Wow, that must be a relief.

O, Great Martin, modern magician of digital audio, can you explain what happened? That we may all learn?

Gerard
