Had a bunch of crashes today, finally narrowed it down to the size of the file, which is about 2 hours long, a WAV file converted to .amad. When I try to convert it to an Apple mpeg-4 file (either using "export to itunes library" or "Save As...") it gets close to the end of the process and the program crashes. Didn't have the problem with a similar file around 71 minutes long.

Don't know if you got any of the crash reports osx offered to send you. It kept asking me repeatedly for permission to access my keychain, and I would say "Allow" several times, then lose patience and say "Deny" and it would go away.

Version 1.4.5 (688), MacOSX 10.6.2, 4GB memory.

Unfortunately, this is a known bug in MacOS X. I hope that Apple will give it some priority. If you want to help, you can report it at <http://www.bugreport.apple.com/>, the more independent reports they get, the more likely it is that they fix it. For the record, this is the report that I submitted to Apple:

Summary:
The ExtAudioFile API crashes when trying to converting a large (over 1GB) AIFF file to Mp4.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Fetch the 1GB AIFF file at <http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2623632/Test.aif> (This file has now been taken down, but any 1GB file will work.)

2. Build the ConvertFile example from <http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/ConvertFile/>. (I tested the 32Bit Intel version on MacOS X 10.6.2 but had crash reports from users on different configurations as well.)

3. Type ConvertFile Test.aif -f 'm4af' -d 'aac ' -b 257000

4. It *seems* to work fine for a few minutes, and then: Booom! (Sample crash log is attached.) The resulting file is corrupt and wouldn't play with QuickTime Player.

It was filed by Apple as a duplicate of report number 7100093. Regards,

Martin
