Printing out sound 'graphs'

Post by kneelc »

All

I'm comparing how sounds 'look' and Amadeus is perfect for this task. But I have been unable to print out the tracks through my A3 laser. I have tried using the 'print' button with all the usual elements checked (printer, paper size, orientation etc etc) but when I instruct a page to print the page comes out blank. If I use the 'preview' option in the print dialogue, the preview is similarly blank.

Obviously I am missing something but I simply don't know what it is. Can anyone give me a step by step guide.

Many thanks.

Niall

Just checked, printing is somehow working on my inkjet, but nothing is adjustable.

When I would have to print waveforms I'd use Command-shift-3 or Command-shift-4 to make a screenshot. And afterwards arrange the screenshots on a page with TextEditor or Pages. Much more flexible, resizing is easy. You can even shoot long waves in parts and arrange these parts on the page.

Gerard

Many thanks for that. I was hoping that I could print directly, possibly from the 'whole sound' feature but screen shots will suffice.

However, I'd still like to know how to print from Amadeus so, if anyone can make any suggestions.........

Regards ato all.

It does seem that on my system (OSX 10.6) Amadeus ignores print setup and print instructions - including page orientation for example.javascript:emoticon(':(')

You can get it to print A3 by setting the SYSTEM default page size to A3 using the System prefs box, though (but of course this will affect all applications - though you can manually reset the default each time).

Printing from screen grabs is OKish but of course gives lower resolution.

You are right, this is clearly a bug. The version at <http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip> should fix it.

I'm preparing visual materials for a talk on the physics of string instruments and I've tried to get a PDF image from a waveform displayed in a window of Amadeus Pro by means of the print command. I'm running AP 1.4.5 / Mac OS X 10.6.2. I've noticed that
- the application seems to disregard the page orientation set with the "page setup" command. It stays always in portrait mode. Also the % reduction factor seems not to be considered.
- the PDF image that is created does not contain the x (time) axis with related data.

I will just use cmd+ctrl+shift+4 to copy the screen image, but a complete vectorial PDF would have many advantages. Besides the "scalability", one would be able to edit the image with applications like "Illustrator". In my case, e.g., this would allow me to enlarge the numbers on the x-axis, that are perfectly readable from the computer display, but not when it is shown to an audience by a projector.
From a look into the application bundle, I'd guess that it is Cocoa-based and, judging from my experience with an application I developed to analyze gamma-ray spectra, I believe it should be straightforward to get a complete vectorial PDF from the displayed data.

Since this is my first post in this forum, I wish to express my deep appreciation of Amadeus Pro, a very well conceived and implemented application that proved itself essential to me in more occasions.
