Snow Leopard and DVCPROHDAudio

Post by montylee »

On my Mac Pro (2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) with 14 GB RAM the DVCPROHDAudio definitely prevents Amadeus Pro from launching. The FAQs say:
However, some users seem to have problems when the CoreAudio Plug-In "DVCPROHDAudio" is installed on their computer and they use a FireWire interface. If Amadeus Pro refuses to launch on your computer, go to the /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL folder on your system and look for that plug-in. If you find it, move it to your desktop and reboot your computer. This should do the trick. To the best of my knowledge, this plug-in is obsolete and can be deleted without causing any problem.

I have no Firewire interface yet the plug-in still keeps it from launching. Throwing the plug-in away works and results in a successful launch. However, the statement "this plug-in is obsolete" may not be correct as it seems that iDVD re-installs this when launched. I say that because last week I threw the plug-in away and this weekend Amadeus Pro would not launch. Checking the HAL folder the plug-in was back. I had used iDVD this week, so I'm guessing that either iDVD re-installed it or some other program or system update.

That's interesting. The reason why I think that it is related to a
FireWire interface is that one user reported that AP would fail to
launch precisely when his FW device is plugged in. Furthermore, I
tried installing the DVCPROHDAudio plugin on my system (I have no FW
audio device) and it had no visible effect.

Could you send me your copy of this plug-in so that I can try to see
if it is different from the one I tested? Thanks,

Martin

Well I could not figure out how to attach a file to send it to you, so I just uploaded it to my Public MobileMe folder. So let me know if you can't find it.

Hi Monty, does the version at <http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip> fix the incompatibility with DVCPROHDAudio.plugin? I have modified it so that the plugin should get instantiated later in the launching procedure, hopefully this would circumvent the bug (which seems to be caused by a racing condition inside Apple's code).
Regards,

Martin

Seems to work fine on my laptop. I'll try my desktop when I get home. Did anyone ever come up with the application or installer that keeps sticking this file back in (DVCPROHDAudio.plugin)?

Great! Apparently Final Cut Pro installs it... Regards,
