Error when opening .wav files.

Post by VGuess »

Recently I am unable to open some .wav files. There is an error message which says "This does not appear to be a valid Wave file." This occurs both on new files and older files which have previously opened OK. Other types of files (.aif, .m4p) open OK. I have some .wav files that open OK. The .wav files that do open seem to be the ones written by Amadeus. The ones that do not open are from my Tascom HD-P2. These .wav files open fine with iTunes, QuiockTime Player, Toast, etc. and until recently they would open with Amadeus.

Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24" iMac
System 10.6.2

I don't remember if this problem started form a system update or an Amadeus update.

Are you sure, the files are really wav-files? I had the same problem with a file - the solution was: Indeed it was a mp3. You may will have a look on the file-information (cmd + i).

Yes, I am certain that they are .wav files. They open fine with other apps and until recently they also opened in Amadeus.

Hmm ... sounds strange. The file I mentioned, it was the same. It opened up in Quicktime, but not in AP. Maybe, AP only looks on the extension, not in the header (martin - is this true?).

Can you tell, how long the sound is and how big the file? Stereo or Mono?

Regards

Yes, that's right. If there's no known extension, it looks at the header, but there are only very few file formats it can recognise this way. (Only WAVE and AIFF I think.) Also, if the extension is known but wrong, it doesn't try to second-guess like QuickTime does. Regards,

Martin

I am in the process of doing that. Unfortunately, most all of my live recordings are rather large and the one I am trying to upload is 420 MB. The file name is WOWS20090617.wav.

I think the file uploaded OK.

Hi, I believe that the version at

http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip

opens these files correctly. Regards,

Yes, it does! Thank you very much. The version I was using was 1.4.5 and the newly posted version is 1.4.6.
