Adding Back "Liveness" after Denoising

Post by verschell »

I have a set of cassette tapes that I am trying to digitize. The problem is that the S/N ratio isn't wonderful. The noise that is there is very close to white (the spectrum is nearly flat > 4000kHz)

I can remove most of the noise using the "Suppress White Noise", well as best as I can, the problem is that it leaves the recording sounding flat. Any suggestions about which audiounits to try and add some liveness back in (without making it sound echoey or fake) would be appreciated.

The recording is of a single male voice with no accompaniment. It was recorded on a mono mike in a small room (very intimate), and I want to keep that feeling.

Thanks!
