flattened peaks when viewed in SoundForge

Post by terry.clancy@gmail.com »

I record live events and send the recordings to someone who does the post production for web video broadcasts using SoundForge. Consistently the recordings will look fine in Amadeus, recording as wave file, but in SoundForge the peaks are very flattened. I have to record at a very low volume for the wave form to look correct in SoundForge.

Surely you have this sorted by now, but for others who come along:

Waveform displays are scalable, vertically and horizontally. Either way can be adjusted so that the view looks like flattened waveforms. The way to determine levels is by (in AP) doing this: Menue bar->Analyze->Waveform Statistics.

Your colleague needs to sort things out on his/her end. Don't give material at improper levels to someone based on a variable such as display scaling, or some sort of mismatched gain structure on the other end. Your colleague needs to know how to determine levels in SF other than looking at a waveform(!!), how to modify levels if required, and how the display parameters work in SF.

See that the material leaves your hands in good shape.
