Crash Recovery Issue

Post by jnfritz »

Amadeus Pro crashed during recording. It created three temporary files. I used the import raw data format on each file. Amadeus Pro opened each file and, for a brief second, I saw the original waveform. Then the waveform turned completely blue. Playing any of the file produces only hiss. Is there some way that I can recover these temporary files.

Thank you!

Jeff

Yes, it looks like the only problem is that the data you entered
in the opening dialog for "Import Raw Data" is wrong. Make sure
that "header size" is 0 and that the "type" (bit depth and PowerPC / Intel)
corresponds to the recording in question. Regards,

Martin

Excellent, Martin! The options that you suggested worked. You saved my two-hour Internet radio show from going to oblivion! Many, many thanks!

I am using AP 2.1.3; the original recording was in 32 bit. The import raw data dialogue does not have a setting for 32 bit. Of course, when attempting to recover raw data after a crash, I get the brief view of the waveform followed by solid blue and horrible hiss. Some of the files are merely a straight line and silence even though there are up to 536.9 KB in each one. How can I recover my editing?

Hi, the format "float" is 32bit. What if you try to select that, with a header size of 0?
Regards,

Martin

Using float, I get a straight line with no sound. The file that opens, however, is marked 24 bit rather than 32. I have opened it in 16, 24, and float now, and get the same result. It supposedly contains 536.9 MB of information.

I noticed that some of the recovered files have 536.9 MB, while others are 159.4. The ones which open as a straight line (so far) have been the 536.9 MB ones.

Opening a smaller one in float, I do get a normal wave form, but they are marked 24 bit, although they were 32 when they crashed. Opening them in either 16 or 24 yields a solid black field and the horrible hiss. Unfortunately, although it opened successfully with float, the segment was without my edits.

The original was 32 bit, but I had used AP 1.5.5 to edit most of it, which means it may have been edited in 16. I had downloaded the new Amadeus Pro, started using it, but went back to the old one because my pointer kept catching the volume control bar running through the middle of the waveform. Could that explain the difference in file sizes?

Hmmm…….. Could you maybe send me a Dropbox link to one of these files so I can have a look?

You can remove that volume control by selecting "View -> Show Envelope For -> None".

Yes, thank you.
The recording is monaural, my computer running Snow Leopard.

Thank you also for the tip about the volume control. I have 2.1.3 installed now, and am exploring the new features.
