Speed on MacBook Retina?

Post by flipphillips »

I've noticed that, since I've moved to my new MacBook, a retina, that the UI in Amadeus feels terribly terribly slow.

I've given it more 'maximum ram', played with the GPU settings, etc. All to no avail.

Thoughts here?

What about the version at

http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip ?

It seems that for some reason I don't understand, Apple's drawing routines become terribly inefficient on "retina" displays when asked to draw lines with coordinates that are not integers or half-integers. The version at the link above does the corresponding round-offs and seems to perform much better (at least when I use my iPad as an external "retina" display, I do not yet have any of the new MacBook Pros to test on). Regards,

Martin

Hi,

are there any other improvements in this version compaired to the usual current version? I don't use a MB Retina.

Thanks
Jürgen

I fixed one bug that could cause intermittent crashes.

Still sluggish, faster but still sluggish.

In fact, the UI sort of became totally unresponsive at parts, ended up with beach ball. Hit 'play', scrolled around a little bit, then, when I tried to press 'stop' it wouldn't respond. Space bar wouldn't respond either. The events seem to have gotten cued up, and eventually quit.

Checked console for errors, nothing obvious- these were in there however:

7/4/12 2:50:01.936 PM Amadeus Pro: Error setting input stream format -10868 å’ˇˇ
7/4/12 2:50:01.936 PM Amadeus Pro: Format for source 0 is 2ch-44100.00Hz-32bit-'mcpl'

BTW- the file I'm messing with = 32 bit, 48,000 ~40 minute long vinyl recording. Responds pretty well on my iMac.

Tried to use both integrated and discrete graphics card in the MBP. Seems that, regardless, I get a lot of beach-balling.

Hi, could you please send me a few Activity Monitor samples from when you get the beach ball? Open Activity Monitor, select Amadeus Pro and hit "Sample Process" to generate those. Please send directly to Martin@HairerSoft.com, not to the forum. Thanks,

Martin

Hi,

I also had problems with my new retina and amadeus.
But they seem to be solved or at least much better when I follow apples advice to enable the low resolution field in the information window of amadeus.

For anyone who's got a "retina" MacBook… Could you give the version at

http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip

(build 1491) a try? This version should run *much* faster on the retina display. Please let me know if this is usable now. Regards,

Martin

Poor Performance on Retina Display, Amadeus 2.1.2

Post by Lamante1 »

Hi Martin-

I just upgraded to a 15" macbook pro Retina display, and Amadeus Pro is performing very, very slowly- particularly the zooming and scrolling.

This is with version 2.1.2, which I see contains an update for the retina. Is there anything else I can try? This software has been a major part of my workflow at work, and I'd hate switching to something else.

Thanks!
Jake
