is there a frisking vu meter?!
Hi, I've just spent fifteen minutes registering with your forum so I don't have much time left.
Do you have a VU meter?!!! Your "documentation" refers to it twice but never shows where there is one. I can't find one, either. Is there a menu item or incantation I can use?!?!!

Greetings,
I’m a “frisking” fellow user, not a representative of HairerSoft, so keep that in mind if you dislike my response.
Do you have a frisking version number for your Amadeus (i assume Pro) software? I ask because i’m still using version 1.5.4, having so far chosen not to upgrade to version 2 (still on Tiger and can’t run it, amongst other reasons). So… the following applies to the version i have.
One set of level meters (hopefully not actually VU ballistics, which is skank IMO) is found on the Playback Controller. Another set is found in the Record window, once recording is invoked.
If you’re using Amadeus Pro v. 2 and let people here know, i expect someone (unofficial or official) will post a response fairly soon.
Best,

Thanks
I'm using Pro, version 2.0.5, and the Playback Controller was exactly what I needed, thanks.
I wish it were better-integrated into the window, or could be stretched to the full width of the window and anchored at the top or bottom of the screen, but it looks like it will do the job. (Pre-emptive apologies if that's possible after all.)
Have a good weekend.

I do plan to have the option of showing level-meters for each track in the main window in version 2.1. Regards,I wish it were better-integrated into the window

What would be a useful way for VO users to access them? The level meters would display the sound level in real time during playback. Maybe I misunderstand you, but maybe what you're after would be something that tells you the sound level in the current track near the insertion point, is that so? Regards,
Martin

My use case was different. I have a recording of a panel at a conference and am trying to apply real-time compression to reduce the dynamic range and make the speakers more audible. Audio fidelity was much less important than audio clarity.
Without VU meters I was unable to tell how close my compression was to 0 dB. Without a vertical scale of some sort in the audio window I can't tell how the data corresponds to loudness -- linear? exponential? Is halfway 50%? How many dB is that? -24? -36?
Without a VU meter I was reduced to bouncing the document to a new file and guessing from the area of the graph how much headroom I had.
Your idea of displaying sound level at the insertion point would be helpful, too.
Thanks for your interest.
