Hello,
I'm a little bit confused: I'm using Amadeus Pro 2.0.2 on my MacBook Pro (Lion) to record some old cassettes with the integrated sound card. During recording time the peak went to 0 db and Amadeus Pro marked the "0 db" red - so I expected clipping occurring at the appropriate positions. But when I checked after the recording and played the file at these positions the peak in the "playback controller" never went over -4db! Gain in Amadeus Pro and the Input Level in MacOS are both on "max".
Can someone explain me this behaviour? Do I have to re-record these cassettes?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
André

Only Martin can answer the specifics, but I expect he throws up a red
when the last bit is set (that is 6 dB down). To confirm you are okay,
select the region, do a find maximum from analyze and expand up and see
if it looks clipped (several samples that are constant).
Personally, you pushing it considerably tighter than I would. I would
probably try to do it so the maximum is between 6 and 12 dB down. (think
of the dynamic range of a tape compared to that of a digital
recording.) I recorded a tape where I set the recording level to about
+ 6dB and use that to set gain.
