Greetings,
I have just started converting reel to reel live shows to digital using TEAC deck to M audio box to Mac computer. Is there a basic recommended procedure in terms of manipulation of the files after they are digitized - but before they have been converted to a CD.
I'm thinking in term of hiss removal using a snippet of "blank" tape along with possible "equalization" of the sound or ??. My desire is to develop a standard operating procedure that a newbie like me can follow that will result in an accurate copy of the original with the obvious defects removed.
Thanks,
stl Rick

Amadeus Pro does include some noise reduction, but for the best results (short of spending thousands on CEDAR) you could consider purchasing DeNoise:

It's $40; I've used it extensively (I also had a hand in testing it) and had excellent results from it.

General comments.
I would make sure that you don't overdrive anything. I don't know what
box you have but if you can digitize at 24 bits, I would allow 3 or 4
bits of headroom.
I would then normalize to 100% and then do any noise reduction your
heart desires.
