Same issue here. No /HAL folder in /Library/Audio/Plugins.
Currently there are three folders in there:
Components
Digidesign
VST
Components has a file called A52Codec.component in it, others are empty.

Actually, my mistake. That was in ~/Library
In /Library/Audio/Plugins/HAL, there was DVCPROHDAudio.plugin and iSightAudio.plugin. One of these two is crashing it.
I had the same problem. Amadeus Pro worked fine after installing Snow Leopard except when I used my PreSonus Firebox. All of my other audio applications and iTunes played fine through the Firebox, but Amadeus would just bounce and then hang without opening or showing the little run light even though it was running. I had to delete DVCPROHDAudio.plugin from the HAL directory. Sure hope it wasn't important. Now Amadeus launches and plays through the Firebox.
Hi, could anyone send me the "DVCPROHDAudio.plugin"? It seems to be
incompatible with Snow Leopard (googling it shows many users
experiencing freezes of a number of program because of it), but since
lots of computers seem to have it installed, I could try to find a
workaround to the freezes... Thanks,
Amadeus no longer launches for me after installing 10.6.1 and the most recent Apogee Ensemble update. It just bounces for a while, then finally stops bouncing and I have to force quit it. I've deleted all the preferences, deleted and re-downloaded the application, etc, but nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you check on extensions in your /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL folder
as suggested in this thread? Regards,
I was having the same problem launching Amadeus Pro on my MacBook Pro with 10.6.1. Removed DVCPROHDAudio.plugin and the program launches fine. I am sending you a copy of the plug-in. I cannot seem to find out what this plug-in does, but it is an Apple component. All other audio software seems to be unaware of it.
Actually, what is an email address I can send the plug-in to.

I already got a copy of it from another user, thanks. My impression is
that it is an old Apple FireWire audio driver that has become
obsolete. Regards,

I have now had three reports of users for whom Amadeus Pro wouldn't
launch after they upgraded to Snow Leopard. The culprit always was a
third-party audio driver that wouldn't work properly. If you
experience a similar problem, have a look at your /Library/Audio/Plug-
Ins/HAL folder and try to remove any component that you find there
(and reboot the computer) before sending me an email Cheers,
I can't start Amadeus in Snow Leopard when my Mackie Onyx Satellite soundcard is attached.
Other software (Logic Studio, iTunes, Audacity, Mu.lab and others) has no problem with my Satellite.
