bit depth

Post by anechoic »

a couple of things:
- how does AP deal with bit depth? e.g. does it truncate or dither when going from say 24 to 16 bit?
- also, I had to search for how to change the bit depth - I think putting this in the 'Characteristics...' selection under the 'Sound' menu is unintuitive and confusing.
- better to incorporate things like 'Sample Rate' and 'Bit Depth' under Effects or in the 'Save As' dialog box.

I can't answer the question -- but the positioning seems perfectly
rational to me (of course I am used to it). It is the characteristics
of the sound that I am changing.

It uses Apple's CoreAudio routines. I believe that they dither rather
truncate, but only Apple can confirm that.

'Characteristics' implies more of a perceptual aspect of a sound (something that identifies it) not a mathematical one

anyway, too many mouse clicks to change the SR and Res of a soundfile
a pull down for each the bit depth and SR in the main window would be an even better idea
:)

Just click on the bottom left corner of the sound window (where it
displays the bit depth and SR), this is probably faster than accessing
the menu item. Regards,
