New to Amadeus and running v 1.3.1. How do I apply a crossfade between 2 adjoining pieces of music? I get glitches at the beginning and end of my selected area. Or if I just use the position marker my only option is Loop Crossfade which doesn't appear to have any affect.

Fading -- crossfade to left (or to right)

First select the area you want to crossfade.
Try "to left" and "to right" to know the difference.

And to avoid glitches, try "Selection>Extend to crossing" Your selection will be adjusted to the nearest zero-crossing.
First select the area you want to crossfade.
Try "to left" and "to right" to know the difference.

crossfade

Post by rickwells »

Thanks guys. I was hoping there would be someway I could crossfade from a centre outwards so that the left fades out while at the same pace the right fades in. Is this not different to 'right fade' or 'left fade'. Or am I talking rubbish?

I can't tell ;-)
Never use the fade left/right. I know what I would do to check it out: take two very different sounds and try the options...

Recording cassette/LP audio; external interface desirable?

Post by heaton »

I want to use Amadeus Pro to capture the audio of LPs and cassettes.
I have a usb turntable for the LPs and a deck for the cassettes.

I have recorded some cassettes directly from deck to iMac and have
been generally satisfied with the results. But I have read that using
an external audio-capture device results in a cleaner signal and
better recording. Is this true? If so, I have my eye on the Edirol
UA-1EX usb audio interface, for less than $100. Would such a device
just sit between the cassette deck and line-in on the computer,
somehow resulting in a better recording than recording without the
device?

Is such a device desirable for recording from the turntable, or is
the fact that the turntable is usb good enough? If desirable, I would
appreciate a recommendation for a device that will enable recording
from both sources.

And if I may drift far from Amadeus, can I get better sound quality
from my external speakers by going through this same device?

Thanks for help.

Gerard has the right idea. The way I checked it originally was to take 2
sine waves of different frequencies and doing the crossfade (in those
days, the command didn't have that name). But in practice, try looking
in the manual - page 28 to be exact. I think you will find that this
does what you want.
