Recording LP's: Assigned Track #s Not Transferred to iTunes
I love Amadeus Pro!
I mainly use it to record my LP's and it works great!
But I just recently noticed something weird.
I like to assign the track #'s as they are in LP terms, that is, A1, A2, A3. etc..
I do this in the info window of course, I then always save it as an AIFF file. Then I have an MP3 Batch that I created to batch convert all the AIFF files to a 320kbs MP3 files, to be imported into iTunes.
Here's the weird part, iTunes then lists track #'s not how I've inputted them, rather, like 23, 45, 68, etc..Several times, it reads 57436! No joke.
If this helps, here are my settings for the MP3 batch:
-Encoding type: CBR
-Encoding quality: 2
-Bitrate: 320
-Tags: idv2.4
-Sample Rate: 44.1kHz
-Joint Stereo is Checked
Any ideas? or is it an iTunes thing???
Thanks!

Wait, just noticed something that makes sense(sort of);
If my track # is A1, iTunes reads it as track 11.
If my track # is A2, iTunes reads it as track 12.
If my track # is A3, iTunes reads it as track 13.
If my track # is B1, iTunes reads it as track 21.
If my track # is B2, iTunes reads it as track 22.
And so on. So somehow the encoding is replacing my assigned letters into numbers?
What gives?
Thanks!

Thanks Al for your suggestion.
Unfortunately, I'm a Vinyl head, and can't remember the last time I bought a CD or MP3 file.
So, I'd really like to have my recorded music stay true to the LP format. Hence my stubborn insistence on having the letters be a track number.
Here's my workflow:
1. Record the track(s) from the record.
2. Edit and trim dead space.
3. Input the Metadata and cover art.
4. Save as an AIFF.
5. close document and record several more until I have a handful of AIFF's.
6. Run an Amadeus batch to convert the AIFF's into separate MP3's that I can then import into iTunes.
Your suggestion just takes to long for me to do a separate "Save As" and then MP3 format. That is how I first started to this.
Of course, having them saved as AIFF is very important to me, considering the time it takes for me to do all this.
I've also found, that having iTunes convert the AIFF to MP3's takes forever.
Again, I think Amadeus Pro is the best thing for what I do.
ANy other ideas??
Thanks for your help!

I did several hundred LPs via Amadeus (II and Pro) for import into
iTunes. Since iTunes "native language" is CD, I did the sequential
track numbering. I thought I might as well be semi-modern. Besides,
I use Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php
specifically in this case "Albumize Selection." I ensure the tracks
are in the right order, then just run that script. I'm lazy.
I follow your first two steps for an album's sides. Then save each
side as an AIFF. Then I pass the AIFFs through ClickRepair ($40 via
versiontracker.com) to rid the "rice krispies" that Amadeus does
not address. I do each side separately because the snap-crackle-pop
is usually different by side. Then I read the AIFFs back into Amadeus,
set the markers manually to delimit tracks then choose sound/split-
by-marker (no save-as) to put all the tracks into a single folder
as MP3s (320kbps).
Then to iTunes. I have my stuff organized the way they are in the
iTunes library (artist/album/tracks) except I have "genre" folders
as the highest level under playlists. Then I create an "album" playlist
under genre/artist and drag the folder from Amadeus into that playlist.
I find iTunes preferable to using Amadeus for metadata. First, album
art is the right size. The MP3 art doesn't fill the iTunes square, so
iTunes must scale it (sometimes ugly). I preprocess album art in Graphic
Converter to get a 4.8" square that looks good. Then drag it into the
Multiple-Item Information which has the common metadata. Then back to
each track in the playlist to add unique information. Amadeus doesn't
have a "composer" entry, and it sure looks like you must enter "album"
and "year" and "artist" and "genre" for each track. Boring!
Just my way of working. Maybe you'll find something of value.

Also, I don't know of any way to get the genre entry to be empty/blank,I find iTunes preferable to using Amadeus for metadata.

Cool! Thanks Al!
Definitely some useful tips on workflow.
But I just firgured out, that iTunes doesn't let you add alpha characters to the track field.
I just sent them a feedback requesting so.
I'm not sure if this is even possible, since I don't know squat about coding and such.
Oh, and I love Doug's Applescripts! Thanks for that mention, been awhile since I've visited that site.
Thanks again and take care!
