Request or help: auto-track-split or mark
Here's what I want to do:
I want to use Amadeus to do long recordings to mp3. Basically the way a lecture-recorder sort of thing would work. I'm using it for music lessons. What I want to do is to have it save mp3 files as I'm recording, but I want to be able to just hit one button at times and have it start a new mp3. The goal is to have the entire lesson recorded but have separated tracks so students can go back and easily have the different sections pre-cut.
If there's a way to do this with Amadeus, or an alternative software that someone would suggest, I'd appreciate help. Otherwise, I'd like to request such a feature for the future.
Thanks.

I think there is a one-button to insert a market. Then just split by
markers.

As far as I can tell, it's just "M" but that only works when looking at the already recorded file, or when recording it asks for a name and such and have to click enter before the next marker can be placed.
If I didn't have to click enter, this could work, although with the extra steps of splitting and then saving all the separate files.
None of that gets to my ideal goal, which is not just to have a file marked, but to be saving to mp3 while recording. I want to be able to click one button and have it start making an mp3 and then click one button to have it start making a new mp3 with the same name but a subsquent number after as in "file1" "file2" "file3". The goal is to just quit after that, and have no prep time for the files, just have split mp3s ready to go.

OK, the version at <http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/If I didn't have to click enter, this could work,
AmadeusPro.zip> includes
a 'M' shortcut that creates a marker while recording without popping
up a window.
You can use the "Sound -> Split according to markers..." function.although with the extra steps of splitting and then saving all the
separate files.
This involves no extra steps.

Martin

I downloaded that, and I don't see any difference. The window still popped up when recording and clicking M.
But thanks about the Split according to markers... I imagined before trying it that it would not save, but would open a bunch of separate files as windows in Amadeus. It works EXACTLY as I wanted, thanks!!
So here's my request, and it should be simple since most operations are there already. I want to have "split according to markers" function exactly as is, but in conjunction with "save while recording" so that it automatically makes a folder and saves split files whenever markers are added during recording.
If I can get one-button markers during recording to work though, I'll be functional without the save while recording. The split works great.

When I wrote 'M' I really meant 'shift-m' and not just 'm'. (HopefullyI downloaded that, and I don't see any difference. The window still
popped up when recording and clicking M.
this is clear )

I like the new "M" command -- that used to be the default back many
years ago in AII (when I ran it on my abacus).

Thanks
That did it!
I just really wish I could have the command be a single key and not need the shift modifier.
And a minor glitch: if I leave the marker names blank, then the Split command fails to put them into the folder that it makes. I'd prefer that if the marker names are blank it used the overall folder name for the file names, and successfully put them in the folder.
Anyway, I think I've now got everything working in a way that will really do all I need for the present. Thanks!

What happens if you put the shift-lock on? If that works, you then have
one key.
Also, I can see why it wouldn't save and start a new one. You would
need to make sure the digitization isn't interrupted while opening and
saving a new file and starting a new stream for the next file. Probably
do-able, but probably one would have to be very careful.

Jonah,
Caps lock and shift function totally independantly. It isn't likely actually having the shift key down, even though it sends the signal to the computer to have uppercase letters.
As for the starting and stopping a file, there would probably be a break in audio, you are right. It might be minimal, and for my purposes I don't care really. I'd use the non-saving-as-recording for when I cared, and the save-while-recording for when I just wanted the separate files.
But actually, I don't care so much any more. I had Amadeus crash the first time I tried recording a 40 minute audio file and I lost the data, unlike some times when it ended up being retrievable. So the save-while-recording was something I started doing. But actually, as long as it doesn't crash (and I've had no trouble lately), I don't really care, I'll just do the shift-m and split thing.
But I still request a single key, and also for fixing the glitch when saving with unnamed markers.
