Amadeus Pro is Changing Speed and Pitch of .mov Files

Post by livelife »

First: Thank you Martin for such great software!

Secondly: I am having a challenge saving Uncompressed AIFF files as QuickTime Movie MPEG-4 Audio files (settings appended below): the speed of the data is cut in half and the pitch is doubled and correcting the Pitch and Speed will not be permanent; after the file is saved at the proper speed and pitch and then closed, it will open back up with the erroneous settings. Files previously saved in this format (from Amadeus II days) do not have this problem, and making edits to those files does not change the speed and pitch; it remains correct. Reverting to Amadeus II solves this problem--it just takes a lot longer!

Thoughts? (I am using these settings for recorded conversations and getting, AFAICT, the highest quality with the smallest file size, less than 10% of the original. Other recommendations appreciated!)

Settings:
Amadeus Pro 1.3.1 on a MBP C2D running 10.4.11 with the new QuickTime 7.5
Save as QuickTime Movie (FYI, QuickTime is now keeping markers! Yea!):
Resample is not selected
MPEG-4 Audio:
AAC (Low Complexity)
Specified Bit Rate
64 kbits/second
44.100 kHz
Best

Thanks for your help in advance!

Amadeus Pro is Changing Speed and Pitch of .mov Files

Hi, I just tried that with the settings you described, starting from a
44.1kHz stereo file and the movie file cxreated by Amadeus Pro had the
correct speed. Are you maybe starting from a file with a different
sampling rate? Regards,

Martin

Thanks for the prompt response, Martin!

When I select the menu, “Sound/Show Sound Info...”, for the original AIFF file, I get the following:

Sound:
Total length: 91'38"752
Number of tracks: 1
Sampling rate: 44,100 Hz
Sampling depth: 16 Bits

File:
Format: AIFF
Bitrate: N/A
Size: 484,990,156 Bytes

When I save the file (or part of it--just to save some time!) as per the afore-mentioned parameters, the “Show Sound Info...” menu returns:

Sound:
Total length: 00'18"017
Number of tracks: 1
Sampling rate: 44,100 Hz
Sampling depth: 16 Bits

File:
Format: QuickTime Movie
Bitrate: N/A
Size: 153,737 Bytes

When I play the newly reformatted file, the speed and the pitch are doubled. Also, clicking the resample checkbox made no difference; I also tried changing the various parameters to various degrees, but the result was the same.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Just to eliminate the possibility: Is the "speed" controller in the playback window pointing to zero?

gerards regards

Thanks for the response, Gerard!

Yes, the "speed" controller is pointing to zero, i.e. it is playing at the file’s default speed.

Ah. I got it:

The error appears with mono files only, stereo files compress just fine. Try this:

Open a stereo music track. Go to the menu: Sound:Convert Track To Mono. Save the file as per the above settings. It will play fine until you close it and then reopen it. It will now play at twice the proper speed and pitch.
