A Newbie Skype Question

Post by parrotguy »

Presently in the evaluation stage.

I'm about to start a series of podcasts that will basically be interviews over the phone. I tried one out by Skyping to a friend and recording the conversation.

1. The sound level of my friends voice was lower than mine. Anyway to adjust that before I record the whole interview

2. I'm sure this is a setting that I missed. I'm not seeing the waveform during the recording. I'm seeing the http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2255/217 ... f44c_m.jpg
so I know sound is coming through but I don't know if I'm recording to the hard disk. Make sense?

Tnx

Len

Yep,

That is what you should see -- you see the meter levels -- they are what
you use to adjust things. You see the time that has been recorded so
you have time and signal, therefore you are recording.

Probably the easiest is to record the interview and then normalize the
different parts. I would probably also use compression.

Chuck,

Tnx for the reply. It would take me forever and a day to normalize a 50 minute podcast.

Has anyone used this software with Skype?

tnx

Don't know how to adjust Skype, but if your main concern is intelligibility and want quick results, you may want to experiment with compression. Try for instance the "Hard" presets of AUDynamicsProcessor and listen to it carefully. Equalising for speech might also help.

good luck

Use compression then -- not as good as normalizing each speaker but it
should make it quite listenable.

Scuse me, but I do not see why this would be the case. I just
normalized a 110-minute music show in less than one minute. Even when
I divide such a track into individual songs, it does not take a great
deal of time to select each song and normalize it. Perhaps a phone
interview is different.
