start to finish

Post by philxm »

I’ve been working a lot with multiple tracks, some of which are positioned away from the base starting point. These files thus have multiple starting points — one of which is the earliest -- and multiple durations, with one track ending after all the others.

I’ve yet to find a way to direct playback to play a file’s entire length, from the start of the earliest track to the furthest point. I recently devised a workaround in which I create a silent track that extends the file’s entire duration, but I hope there’s a way the application can do this directly.

Simply pressing the space bar should do precisely that. (At least if the selection is empty and the playback behaviour is set to play from the beginning in the preferences.) Regards,

Thanks for that. Is there a way to achieve the same effect without using the
workaround of an empty track? In other words, to playback a file from the
start of the earliest track to the end of the "latest"?

Dear Phil, I do not see why an empty track would be needed. As mentioned, pressing the space bar is supposed to do exactly what you want. If it doesn't for you, please provide a precise scenario in which the behaviour differs from the expected one. Regards,

Thanks, Martin. I think I'm starting to get the hang of playback control
with multiple tracks. I think part of the difficulty I've been having,
however, is due to the fact that the manual suggests that the preference
settings for playback behavior are self-explanatory, but I've been finding
them a bit abstruse. Might you be willing to jot a few notes of explanation
of those settings for those unable to grasp them intuitively?
