iTunes Tags deleted after processing m4a files

Post by abraxas »

There is a way to keep the iTunes tags when performing a batch processing on files already tagged (with iTunes) ?
The following tags are erased  :
- composer
- total number of tracks (for instance used by iTunes to build 1 out 6)
- disc number
- total number of discs
Tracks and disc information are necessary to sort in the correct order the tracks on a muti-track, multi-disc record.

I had an issue with Serato not reading iTunes id3 tags.
Turns out that iTunes does not even apply tags to files. When you edit them, all it does, is save them in iTunes.xml file.

Try this:

1. Select the track(s) in iTunes.

2. Right click on the track(s) and select "Convert ID3 Tags"

3. In "Convert ID3 Tags" window check "ID3 Version: None" and hit OK. This step is optional and meant to clear all tags from the track. If the track has id3 v2.x and id3 v1.x tags, you will have to do this step TWICE. I don't know why, but running it once only clears v2.x tags.

4. Now go back to "Convert ID3 Tags" window, select the "ID3 tag version:
" checkbox and from the drop down menu select v2.3. (v2.4 does not work with .mp3 files for some reason)

Hit OK and you should have a tagged file.

There a plenty of utilities available online that will let you check Before and After tags.

hope that helps.
