Better Automation

Post by schneb »

I really needed this feature:

I needed a process that would remember menu selections, then allow me to create a batch to run on a folder of sounds. The current batch is extremely limited to a few token commands. It would be far more powerful to remove these selections, and just put a "begin recording commands" and "stop".

What I wanted to do was Generate Markers over silent areas, Split According to Markers then Close Without Saving. This I needed to do over hundreds of small sounds, but alas, cannot batch the process.

In the old days before OSX, I used to have great fun with a program called QuicKeys. It did just what you describe: record any sequence of actions in any program.

Maybe something like that still exists.

Quickeys is still alive and well, you can do a Google, or, Dogpile for it.

Quickeys is at http://startly.com/products/quickeys/mac/4/

It's $59.95 but well worth it if you have a lot of requirements for automation - it can do almost anything. There is a free trial and you should certainly use that to make sure it will do exactly what you want. It's quite a steep learning curve but worth putting some effort into.

A tip: if you are using it to trigger a succession of processes which will take time, you will need to build in pauses long enough to allow each process to complete, or it will charge ahead with the next command before it's possible to apply it, and then fall over.
