normalize to maximum volume
Certainly the -.4 looks pretty reasonable to me. If you zoom way in at the maximum value, you see spikes, each about 1 channel wide about 20 ms apart. With those sorts of spikes there is no way that you can do what you want without removing the narrow high-frequency swings. Chuck On 2/6/14 4:53 PM, ...

Standardizing track volume
Years ago I wrote up and published somewhere on the hairersoft site how I did this job but I have no idea how to find it -- there was some special place for usage articles and I don't know how to find it. At that time I used a specialized program to generate the average value of the tracks that was ...

Why does "hiss" roughen when fading out?
I am confused -- Martin says he doesn't add dither so what dither are we talking about? I have only dealt with dither in data acquisition systems and in those systems I always felt that one should really just take the data right. Lets make sure we are talking about the same thing. Say we have sound ...

Why does "hiss" roughen when fading out?
Not to be obvious but a sixteen bit number that is transferred to 32 bit will translate back exactly to the same 16-bit number. Why would you want to add noise? mp3 compatibility with Audition
All I can say is that we had some one send around some AAC files that some computers couldn't open. I opened them in AP and saved them AP. Possibly it is the bit rate. You have a choice of (at least in the version I am using) constant, variable or average bit rate. If I am going for portability, I u...

Mono vs. stereo
Of course -- when we select mp3 we define the bitrate we want to use so we get the same bitrate independent of the number of tracks. I think I am a little(?) slow today (maybe everyday). Clicks after pitch change
I have successfully used pitch change on a piece of music with reasonable results. However if you want to get an idea of the sort of artifacts one might get, just do a time or pitch change on a constant note, say 30 seconds long. Possibly with different parameters I might have gotten better results....

Equalization and Amplify
I probably would not equalize as the USB turntable probably includes the equalization. My tendency on volume is to "normalize to 0 dB of the maximum value" rather than amplify. Chuck On 10/12/12 8:32 AM, slips wrote: I am new to Amadeus Pro, but I did use the prior version. I am recording ...

It would be except I must have deleted that folder. I have traces of the program but nothing useful any more. I went back a couple of backups and still couldn't find it. It may well have been 5 or more years ago. As I recall, I read the file in byte by byte, put the two bytes together to make the wo...

Converting AIFF to text
Did you read it as a raw file? I don't think it is practicable to read it into a text editor -- most of the values are not normal text values -- some will be control characters, etc. I can probably find my old C program and rearrange it to generate bytes to text and then you can read the data in and...

Quite honestly, no, I don't know of any science behind it, but then I am not an expert in sound processing. But, in fact, I think I originally posted that technique and only after I tried it on multiple examples and found that it worked. I normally select a region and copy it to a new file before do...
