Re: cassette to mp3
I don't think isoprop is usually denatured with anything the way ethanol is. That's correct, because it's not drinkable. Meths is ethyl alcohol (the drinkable stuff) deliberately polluted with 10% methyl alcohol (poisonous), pyridine to make it stink and a purple dye to identify it. This renders th...

You asked about maintenance. It's probably difficult to buy tape head cleaner nowadays: you could try asking your local chemist to get you some isopropyl alcohol (it's not polluted the way ordinary meths is but it is legal for them to sell it). If you can't get it ordinary meths will probably do, th...

You should be able to use the Ion's USB connection to record directly into Amadeus, rather than using their software. Connect it, open Amadeus, and it should appear as a source in Preferences>Sound>Input. Even if the Ion has analogue outputs the quality is likely to be poor - the USB connection shou...

The survival of your ability to hear high frequencies is a matter of luck, I'm approaching 70, and I can hear 10kHz in one ear and 11kHz in the other. This isn't at all bad, but I suppose it will get worse as time goes on. However it's worth noting that many years ago Quad did an experiment which sh...

Re: Moving from GarageBand
Your Garageband loops are all .aiff files living in Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops and folders within that for different loop sources. (Note that this is the Library at root level, not the one in your Home Folder). You can simply drag any of these loops into a track in Amadeus: f...

Re: CD tracks
Regarding the two seconds gap, you can set the duration of the gap between CD tracks in the burning dialog. Yes, but you can only set them to be all the same. If you set them all to '0' then does it set the first track to '0', which is against the Red Book spec? - and in any case you can't set some...

Re: Function request - track levels
When you adjust play, can't you then hear what you have done? I do this all the time when I am mixing 4 and 5 tracks. I adjust the play levels and listen to how it sounds and when I am satisfied, I flatten/bounce to a new file. Except that you can't increase the level this way it's a fair enough me...

Re: Function request - track levels
Just use the play level and flatten to a new file? This is now called 'Bounce' - but it's not a lot of use doing it that way - you can't see the effect until after you've bounced it, and it would be just as easier to use the gain effect. What's needed is a way to adjust the track and assess the res...

Function request - track levels
The new sound level line is a useful improvement as it allows increasing the level. However it would be useful to have a way of adjusting the overall level of a track (I know you can do this from Effects but its not as convenient). The slider at the top only affect the playback level. One can of cou...

CD tracks
Just purchased v2 and waiting for licence. Looks good, I particularly like the much improved multitrack facilities which now make it a serious multitrack editor. One comment: the track pause when burning a CD can only be set globally (as far as I can see): I sometimes need some tracks to be contiguo...
