Re: Old Time Radio
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the squeal? All you can do is try to filter the frequency the squeal is at: however if it is in the speech frequencies range you will find it difficult: also it probably isn't at any one frequency. Try this (and WORK ON A COPY!) Effects>Audio Units>...

Re: Compressing Audio for Web download
I just came back from a seminar that would be totally unlistenable in a recording, but easily understood at the time. This is exactly the sort of situation where it can help - some people mumbling and some speaking loudly. _______________________________________________ Amadeus forum mailing list U...

Re: Compressing Audio for Web download
[quote="CDJonah_alt"]Actually, I disagree here -- I have found compression makes the spoken word more easily listenable./quote] Of course this is a matter of personal opinion. Personally, I hate dynamic compression, which people tend to apply willy-nilly: occasionally there is a need for i...

Better still, just compress it using MP3 and don't use the MDA compressor unless you want it to sound as if you were being beaten round the head with an invisible newspaper. MDA applies dynamic audio compression - making the quiet bits sound as loud as the loud bits. This has no bearing on what the ...

Re: Setting track marks for CD burn?
Put Markers in > split according to markers > drop files into Toast > set pause between tracks to 0 > burn. This way a long song can be divided into tracks whithout audible gaps. This method is absolutely fine, but to be compliant with CD standards there should be a 2 second pause before the first ...

In Amadeus II, menu Window>Show Playback. In Amadeus Pro, menu Window>Playback Controller Both have a meter which works on playback, though unfortunately it is not calibrated. For a calibrated input (but not playback) level meter, ProLevel: http://www.katsurashareware.com/pgs/prolevel.html is $20 (T...

Sounds like digital breakup, which can be caused by the computer simply not keeping up with the incoming signal. The computer itself will be well fast enough to do audio, but you should probably try closing every other program to free up the processor, and if you are connected via a USB hub you shou...

Re: Poor recording quality
I don't believe you are asking me :), but I connect my cassette recorder to the line inputs and record to Amadeus with no problem. Well, as you correctly surmise I was asking the OP, in order to try to isolate where the problem is: if a cassette machine into the mixer works OK then the mic, its lea...

What happens if you connect something like a cassette recorder to the line inputs and record - do you get the same problem? If not, then there may be a problem with the microphone or its lead. Can you describe the sound in more detail? Is it a noise, or distortion, or breakup> Incidentally, make sur...

...isn't it possible to set an external audio editor, similarly like you can choose Photoshop to be you external image editor in iPhoto? Not in GB, which is after all intended for simple use: it's remarkably powerful for what it is, but though you can edit chunks out of a clip it's very clumsy. It'...

Why not move the project to GarageBand then? Well of course one can do that, though GB is useless for doing fine editing. Indeed I use Cubase LE to assemble my podcast as it includes an on-screen mixer with full automation: but it would be nice not to have to move around between programs - particul...

Basically MP3 encoding works by leaving out bits of the audio which you can't hear anyway because of what's called 'perceptual masking' - loud sounds masking quieter sounds at nearby frequencies. Decoding and then re-encoding a file in the same format and settings doesn't usually make much differenc...

I agree it would be a feature worth having: I should also like to see files which are dragged into the window placed where the playhead is rather than the beginning of the track (or have it as an option): this and the multiple-select-and-move are really essential once you start trying to handle more...

CD burning - gaps
Amadeus Pro: Presumably if I set the gaps to zero when burning a CD it still puts a 2 second pause at the beginning of the first track as required in the Red Book? It would be much more useful to be able to choose the pause for each track - I quite often need zero in some cases and 2 seconds in othe...
