Yes, that's now working as expected, mono AIFFs opening in 'Front' in APro and playing in both channels. The Lite version also behaves correctly - I don't know whether there was a problem with the earlier version as I don't use it, but as it doesn't do 5.1 it seems unlikely.

Is there a way of stopping it defaulting to 'Center' when opening AIFF files? I'm only using a two-speaker set-up. I don't want to have to change this every single time I open a mono AIFF file.

I was in 'Center' it turns out, but I thought previously I'd tried 'Front' - evidently not - yes, that corrects it. Thank you. However when opening mono AIFF files it defaults to 'Center' again, though M4a files open in 'Front'. Is there a way of making it default to 'Front'? - I can't see one. Obvi...

Pro. I've reverted to the previous version for the time being, but I was getting this with the version I downloaded yesterday.

Mono recordings in v2.2

In previous versions mono recordings played back on both speakers. With this version a mono recording plays back on the left channel only, with the level showing 6dB higher than it should be. I can't see an obvious setting to change this: I do a lot of both mono and stereo and the left channel only ...

A limiter is provided in OSX's Audio Units: menu Effects>Audio Units>AuDynamic Processor. This article may help in understanding the operation of a compressor-limiter - it was written using Cubase as an illustration but the principle is the same: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/comp...

There is a 'Loop playback' checkbox at bottom left of the window, but unfortunately this does not apply when previewing an Audio Unit. I don't know whether SoundSoap can be made to act any differently.

SoundSoap comes as both VST and Audio Unit plugins as well as a standalone application. When installed according to the bundled instructions it will be accessible in Amadeus from menu Effects>Audio Units or Effects>VST Effects as applicable, where it will work in the same way as plugins such as the ...

There is no point whatever in turning this into a stereo file: it will have no effect at all on the quality and will simply double the file size.

1: hit the M key. You will get a pane in which you can enter a title.

2. No, the waveform is only available once the recording is completed. You can drag the markers if they are not in the right position, or drag them off the bar to remove them.

Thank you for spotting the broken links. I've updated the ClickRepair and DeNoise links. Bias Soundsoap is no longer available (Bias have ceased business) and Dolby have apparently removed the 'Ken's Corner' article.

Re: Removing tape hiss

I tried to create a simple audio file to let me experiment with this issue, but what I got wasn't what I thought it was. I created a track 10 s worth of 400 Hz sine wave at 50%. I generated another track of white noise at 2%. I then merged the two tracks. Sure enough, it sounds like a nice tone wit...

If the noise level is, say, -40 dB and you increase it to, say, -20dB before sampling, then when you carry out the reduction process any wanted audio between -20 and -40 will be reduced in level on the assumption that it is noise, and the amount by which it is reduced will be different at different ...
