Re: denoising tips

cd Jonah said:

copied to a new file, attenuated and then selected as the noise source.
It won't do as good a job at removing noise, but the artifacts will be less.
Mr Jonah: that's really cute- I like that one!

fryroadrunner- First thing, read everything that everyone else has said, 'cause it's all quite true. The problem that you are inadvertently creating with your present recording method falls into the "signal to noise ratio" area of audio problems. Simply put, in all audio work you want to o...

I just updated the version... to 1.2 beta 3. It does now play only one channel if you double-click into it. Martin- I just downloaded that and played around for a few minutes, and it looks very promising. Thanks so much for your continuous good work. If you send me your street address I'll forward ...

Single-Channel Stuff

That was scary when you were using it, like I was, not just as an editing tool, but as a playback source during live performances. Live shows are not the time you want to have to worry about clicking too high or too low in the sound window. Tristan- Yes, I can really understand that! Just goes to s...

Editing of L or R channel

1: Space bar always equals playback of all tracks, and double-click always starts playback of just the currently active track OR CHANNEL(S). That's the one I was planning to implement. Well, that would work fine for me. What's taking so long? The longer you take the less our money is worth! ...

Pro v1.2

Hello to both Tristan and Martin: I just downloaded v1.2 to try the Pro version again, and I am wondering how to select a section of either the left (top) or right (bottom) channel and play just that, without hearing the unselected channel. I must be missing something here, because I can't seem to d...

Repairing pops in just one channel

Hello Tristan- Unfortunately it is much more difficult to correct single-channel glitches using Amadeus Pro than using the older Amadeus II version. I cannot justify purchasing Pro until this situation is corrected, which Martin has promised to do in a future release. I agree with your appraisal reg...

MIDI

Mr Jonah: After reading both sources, it looks like it won't hurt to convert the MIDI files to aiff for further processing.

Thanks for the helpful info.

MIDI Files

I have absolutely no experience working with MIDI files, but have found (in Sweden, of all places!) a treasure trove of freely downloadable ragtime music, in the MIDI format. Amadeus opens these files with no problems. Normally, I don't use any sort of compression- I do all my stuff in the aiff form...

"Sorry, but I think you underestimate the amount of effort it would take to make a manual that pleased even 80% of the people on this list." Having spent 20 years writing and compiling technical and user documentation for the San Francisco 911 dispatch system, some of it using a Mac SE-30,...

"Before I get bashed on, I am aware of the fact that there is a group of users that would like to see back the ability of separately editing the left and right channel of a stereo track... it will definitely be back in one of the next revisions. It's just that due to the way the internals work ...

Regading "Headroom"...

Hi Rob- Well, I'm probably not the best guy to comment on this, not having any professional music recording experience, but I am a retired radio technician, having well and truly served on the front lines of San Francisco's 911 Public Safety communications system. Our situation there was a bit diffe...
