Contrary to most people who are going from vinyl to digital, I frequently need to go the other way. Since I do sound effects for a community theatre, I need to take a good digital recording and make it sound as if it's being played on an old record player. I can do this partially by using a bandpass filter to limit the frequency response, but how can I ADD scratches and pops that would be present on an old record?

Could you?
1) Find an old record with a quiet section, record that and duplicate
it. Then put it in a channel of AP and mix the right amount in.
2) Take an old record and put a fairly high low-pass filter in to cut
the music. I would think the pops would be at fairly high frequency.

That's a good one Very Happy

How about recording some silent parts of an old record and mixing it with the digital recording?

regards

Joe Jackson - Big World
A solid pop-rock album, but the best is side 4 which says "There is no music on this side". Instead you'll get 30 MINUTES of plain vinyl groove!
