merge tracks

Post by Stephanie »

I can't seem to make this work. It's greyed out no matter what I do. Can someone explain to me how to do this? I have two tracks I want to merge into one track. They are both mono. I tried GB but it seems the max for GB is 30 minutes and these tracks are 68 minutes.

Hi Stephanie
Are you working in Amadeus Pro now?
Tell us more details about your problem.

With two mono tracks in APro the Sound menu says" Merge with next track" or "Merge with previous track". It just works for me.

Hi Gerard. Yes I upgraded to A Pro. There are no instructions as to how to merge tracks. Do you select both tracks from two separate files or do they have to be in the same file . I copied one track after another and then tried to merge with previous track. That didn't work. I tried two mono tracks in stereo file, which wouldn't work either. The merge tracks is greyed out whatever I try.

Get two mono tracks into one file and then flatten to a new file.

The concept of multitrack editing is that you create keeping the files
separate and then flatten to a new file to give your result. That way
you can always go back, tweak what you did and reflatten. You can use
the envelope function to change the levels of one or both and at
different places and when you then flatten it to a new file, that will
be there.

merge tracks

They are both mono.
If you are talking about mixing the two channels from a single stereo
track, then you probably want to use the "Convert Track to Mono"
function from the "Sound" menu. Regards,

Martin

Hi Gerard. Yes I upgraded to A Pro. There are no instructions as to how to merge tracks. Do you select both tracks from two separate files or do they have to be in the same file . When one Apro document has two monotracks in it, they can be merged.
How to get two tracks into one document? Open the first document and drag the second one in from the Finder. A new track is created automatically.
Convert stereo tracks to mono if necessary.
Or combine tracks by copying and pasting between open documents.

And listen to Chuck: flattening to a new file is better than merging.

The GB limit are not minutes, but bars.
The trick is to change the song tempo to a low value first. With tempo 40 bpm you should have no problems to import a 68 minutes file.
(The same trick works in Logic as well, by the way. Both apps share basically the same audio and sequencer engine.)
