denoising tips

Post by alansilv »

i'm puzzled by the settings for the denoise tool in the effects menu. thru trial & error i've achieve ok results, but would like to know when to go for 'long fft' or 'short fft,' 'peaked' vs 'smooth' and how to set the sensitivity. any info is appreciated.

denoising tips

Post by CDJonah_alt »

My recollection is that this is a variant of the "Wiener" or optimized
filter. In essence, one must have an estimate of the frequency spectrum
of the noise (peaked or smooth) and an estimate of the power (I think
this probably in the sensitivity factor.

Other notes -- it often helps to avoid artifacts if the sample noise is
copied to a new file, attenuated and then selected as the noise source.
It won't do as good a job at removing noise, but the artifacts will be less.
