how to separate two instruments ( guitar + flute )

Post by nodeh »

I have a piece of musique with two instruments ( flute and guitar ) my daughter has to play the flute part and want to use the guitar accompaniment . Both instruments are one the same track ( right and left ). I tried to assimilate the flute as a noise but it did not work ... is it possible to delete the flute part and how ? i don't know the frequency of the flute ... :(

I doubt if you can separate them completely; however, I suspect you
want to minimize the flute so that you can highlight the guitar for
learning. If it is a stereo recording with different levels of each in
the two channels (say for example 75% flute and 25% guitar in the left
and the reverse in right channel, you could try inverting one channel
and mixing.

In A-P, split the tracks, put both of them to the same (front left or
front right), use the stereo utilities to invert the phase of one, use
the envelope on 1 to be minimum at the beginning and maximum at the end,
do the reverse with the other track, play it and see if there is some
point where the flute is dominant and another spot where the guitar is
dominant. You can use the values of the envelope function to determine
what you need.

You can't separate via frequency.

I thought to that by the two instruments are at the same level on the two channels ( I said "track" on my first message ) they are not enough different to take just one channel where the guitar should be dominant ...

If they are exactly the same on both tracks, there isn't much you can
do, but if they are at different levels on the two tracks, the approach
I suggested might work. In essence if one has 60% F on one and 40%F on
the other, subtract 2/3 of the first track from the second track. I
just gave you a simple way of seeing if it will work.
