Opus Format Support Coming?

Post by Leighgion »

WhatsApp now uses the opus format for audio messages and I've unexpectedly found myself in the position of having to edit some longer pieces sent over WhatsApp for radio.

I'm currently making do converting the opus files with VLC, but would be fantastic if Amadeus got native support. Love the program and been using it for years.

Hi,

I am planning to include this in version 2.4. Would you be interested in testing a preview version as soon as it works? Regards,

Martin

A new format? What makes this one so much better?

Just curious.

Does Apple support this one yet?

See the Wikipedia article. Apparently it beats Mp3, Vorbis and AAC
in blind listening tests. Also, it seems much more flexible in the sense
that it is very efficient all the way from very low to very high bitrates.
Does Apple support this one yet?
No, but Firefox and Chrome support it in HTML5 documents.

Hi Martin,

I would absolutely be interested in testing. It seems I'm dealing with an opus file every week now. Appreciate the offer.

Hi, the version at

http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusProOpus.zip

should support Opus. The only known bug at the moment is that artwork
metadata is not supported for Opus files. Regards,

Great! Various other things distracted me from checking back in here, but this week I have a whole batch to deal with. Will test and report.
