I have smart editing on, but when I fill a space in a track with silence (in this case to cover up a recorded artifact) I get clicks on either side of the silence.

Is there a way to do this so I don't get the clicks?

Do you select the region and then ask the program to select to the next
zero crossing?

Sorry -- I presumed you were selecting a section and then filling to
silence the selection. If so, there is an option in selection to expand
to a crossing

Sorry to be unclear. I'm selecting a section that has an artifact, then choosing Effects > Generate Silence.

My only choices in the dialogue box are to generate silence of a specified length or to generation silence to fill the selection. I'm choosing the latter.

Is there a better way? Also note that I'm doing this on a vocal track, so it has to stay in rhythm with the instrumental track.

Thanks.

Yes, by all means. Simply replacing a very short artefact by silence will always result in an audible click. It is *much* better to use the “Interpolate” function from the “Effects” menu instead. Regards,

Martin

Yes, you are right, but after selecting the region, go to the selection
menu and select to expand to nearest crossing and then do the replace.

How long are the spaces you fill with silence and what is the length of your smart editing crossfaded (see the preferences)?

Martin
