I'm trimming some MP3 files and need to know if Amadeus recompresses the audio file when "save"ed. If it does, how can I avoid mangling my files with unneccessary compression.

I think this is correct.
When you read the file in, AP expands the file to an uncompressed format
so that you can work on it. Then if you save it to an mp3, it will have
to recompress it. I think there are only a limited number of things that
one can do with an mp3 file without expanding it.

Chuck is right. The only exception is when you only edit an Mp3 (or Mp4) file’s metadata. In that case, it will be changed without recompressing it. In principle, it is possible to trim an Mp3 file and to recompress only small chunks near the boundaries, which is what Fission does. Due to the large number of file formats and operations that it supports, implementing this in Amadeus Pro would be impractical to say the least… Regards,
Martin
