New Encoder for mp3 and Flac
Hi Martin,
today I've read an interesting news about a new encoder for flac, which is much more faster than the older libflac. The same company build earlier also an faster encoder for mp3. Both are capable for more than one CPU-core.
Now my Question: Is it possible to integrate these both (they are Open Source) into Amadeus? This would be really great!
Regards,
Jan

New Encoder for mp3 and Flac
Looks interesting. I downloaded it and it seems to be Windows-only at the moment. So unless they come up with a Unix / Linux / MacOS X port, I am afraid that it cannot be used. OK, I checked out in a bit more detail and their Mp3 encoder seems to be essentially a wrapper around lame that uses multiple cores only when encoding more than one file, so it's far from earth-shattering...
This is not much different from what happens if you open two instances of the batch processor, throw half of your files onto the first instance and the other half on the second instance. (Or maybe 4 instances if you are the lucky owner of a quad-core machine...) There will be future versions of AP in which the batch processor will make use of multiple cores in this way by itself, without you having to do it by hand. (If you are interested in testing, let me know off-list.) Regards,
Martin

I actually have the dual quad-core machine and each core is
double-threaded so it takes 16 processes to saturate it! (unfortunately
it's the lab's computer and not mine so I don't get to use it on Amadeus.)
