I am trying to play a music file on my mac and record it. If I use the microphone option the sound is poor and room noise is included.

If I use the line option there is no signal. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks...

I guess I have to ask why? If you have a music file, why do you want to
record it? Audio Hijack and I think "Jack" will do it.

I don't have the file yet. I want to record it and make a file so that I can edit the track...

For example, in Rip, Edit, Burn, software for windows, I can play a file on Rhapsody for example, and record it, edit it, and create an mp3...

I use Soundflower (www.soundflower.com) and it works quite well for me.
I could never get Jack to work.

Exclamation This is off-topic, but private data of this kind should never make to be published in a public web forum!
Note that when I quote the above text via the phpBB forum interface (which is how I'm accessing the forum), the actual e-mail address gets stripped automatically. But apparently not if replied via the mailing list. That looks like a serious security issue to me… Confused
