I think I found my answer...If I record my large file and the select a section, copy it, open a new sound file and then paste the selection into it voila I have my smaller files. Please let me know if there another way Smile

If you want to chop one large file into many smaller pieces, you can also place markers at the boundaries between pieces and use the "Split According to Markers" command from the "Sound" menu. There is also a shortcut for what you've been doing: "Copy To New File" in the "Edit" menu (or just type command-shift-C).
