Updating Version Following Computer Crash

Post by Jim Edgar »

This is probably a Martin issue...

My studio computer finally died this past week - logic board failure on an old iMac PowerPC. I'd been running 1.5, figuring that I'd update to the current version when I replaced the hardware. Which is where I find myself now.

I pulled the old hard drive and have access to all the files, but I'm not what (if anything) is needed for the most seamless upgrade.

I'm moving from OSX system 10.5.8 (I was hardware-prevented from 10.6 or higher because it was not an Intel Mac) to 10.9.2 - and I realize this is a big jump in AP versions as well.

Questions:
I had a number of effects presets stored, as well as "favorites" which I used in the window. Ideally, I'd like to move those forward. Is that possible?

I also had a number of batch processes (all of my data is saved, along with the batch processers) Are those independent of any effects (compression, normalization, etc.) which they implemented - in other words, if I just have the newest version of the effects, will the saved 1.5 version batch processor work with it?

I found the existing preferences file (just one?) which seems to have the license information. Is that all I would need to copy to the new computer, along with the application? It seems that the Library/Preferences is in a different place now with OSX Mavericks. Will that affect things adversely?

Am I overthinking this too much - i.e. would it just be simpler to start AP, run the Updater and dig out my license #?

Thanks in advance!

- Jim

I'm not martin, but I would just start from scratch entering in your key just in case prefs are incompatible and all of that good stuff. I hope you get more valuable opinions as this is just my 2 cents worth.

Take care and happy friday.

Dear Jim, in principle, just copying the prefs file over should work. (It should be in the same location on Mavericks, provided that you are running the non-App Store version of Amadeus Pro.) All the prefs files should be compatible with each other (forwards and backwards), but if it starts actin weird on the new system because of some problem with the prefs file, it’s of course always easy to delete it later on… Regards,

Martin

Thanks Martin & Sarah!

Finally got a gap in the schedule this weekend, so I can dig into the specifics.   Looking forward to finally using the updated tools!
