a small video matter

Post by Ray Foret jr »

Okay. I have a problem, I think. I want to bring in a video to Amadeus pro and add some extra audio here and there to it and then ssave it as a file still containing both audio and video. Is this possible? Also, can Amadeus Pro be used to join two or more video clips together and save the final project as a .mov file which still contains the video as well as the sound?

IF these things are not possible with Amadeus pro, what alternative would be suggested which is or might be reasonably accessible with Apple Voice Over?

Ray, I have great respect for blind people editing audio in Amadeus.
But the idea of editing video with VoiceOver truly amazes me.
iMovie is very good for a quick edit. But it is intended to be used
visually. I wonder if VoiceOver functionality is built in.

A google search on iMovie and VoiceOver proved quite useless as
voiceover recording is a feature of video editing.

This should be no problem, provided that the video is in the QuickTime format
and that it's not too long. (For some reason it seems that saving back files with
a video track taking GB's of data doesn't always work.) Anyway, make sure you
try it out first on files with backup copies...
Also, can Amadeus Pro be used to join two or more video clips together and save the final project as a .mov file which still contains the video as well as the sound?
No, it cannot be used for that, but I think that QuickTime player could even be
used for it. Regards,

Martin

I can use iMovie quite successfully as a blind person. Granted it takes about 4 hours to render a small 15 minute clip on this old clunker of a system and I can't do chapter markers but it works quite well if you know how to work the sliders.

Four hours for fifty minutes? Much too long. I tried another video app just to see, and, working with it really jams up my Mac quite badly. Almost as though it cannot take editing video.

Yeah it was a 47 minute video that I was cleaning up and it took about 4 hours. I guess it does what eve r it needs to do. I've seen quick time take up about that much as well to finalize projects so I guess it sour systems. lol! I plan on upgrading mine in a few short months.

Anyway if amadeus can do this a lot better then iMovie I'm all for it.

I just found this topic now and have been looking for a program for editing audio and video with ease. If this one does it without the confusion of IMovie and the lag of Garage Band, and is as accessible to read as the Quicktime window, then it looks good.

BTW, yes, Quicktime Player does allow the joining of video files - I use the "add clip to end" function in the edit menu for that.

But QT won't trim quickly, unless you use an Apple script for that job, and I can't make heads or tails of either QT7 or IMovie, not to mention the whole file format incompatibility thing. the free QT Player is by far the easiest to navigate as far as timeline, but lacks some functionality and/or speed, and the export process can take quite a while if the file is several minutes long.

I'm also blind, but still need to be able to edit sound and video clips and don't want to buy Final Cut Pro and/or settle for a sound editor that isn't accessible/user-friendly.

So, did you actually find such a video editor? I find that with the new Imovie, one can move through a long video rather quickly by pressing l to go forwards, j to go backward, and k to pause. But, how in the name of sanity do I ad markers for cutting pasting ETC? Yes, those items are in the menus, but, they are always grayed or dimmed out and can’t do anything. Too bad there isn’t as yet a version of Amadeus for video. IF there were, I have no doubt that Martin would make it as accessible to use as Amadeus pro. Being blind myself, I apreciate your delema.

That's just it, I have the same problem with QT, no way to mark sections within a video for deletion, inserting point or pasting/mixing other media into. I have absolutely no way around IMovie, nor will it or my trial version of Final Cut play my QT videos. Garageband will as long as I make a new project and insert the vid into a track. The process is tedious though, and I don't know if just the audio is copied into the track or the whole movie.

I downloaded the Amadeus Pro trial, but have no success with it. It appears to open QT files but won't play, or quit. I have to force-quit, and then the computer gives me an error type notification when I restart Amadeus, letting me know it had crashed. The alert goes away before I can click into the popup window or find it. Notification Center can be a bit of a pain that way.

No luck with other video or just sound editors either. Audacity and Videopad hit me with the word "Unknown" "unknown" which seems to be all across the screen according to Voiceover when I use the navigation commands trying to make my way around the screen.

The only thing that currently works to some extent for trimming video files is the QT script and that only trims stuff from the beginning or the end.

I'd love some program that's straight forward and doesn't ask you 20 questions before you can finally get down to editing files, whether just audio, or both audio and video.

You must realize that Amadeus Pro is an audio editor, not a video editor. I find it suits me very nicely as an audio editor: which, you see, makes me want Martin to come out with a video editor which we can use. Would I be willing to buy it? Of course.
